Playing pitch and outdoor sports strategies

KKP is widely regarded as the UK’s leading ‘go to’ company in this field. We authored Sport England’s Playing Pitch Strategy Guidance (published: 2013) and is one of just two present day companies that were selected as approved suppliers of playing pitch strategies (PPS) and audits on Sport England’s Strategic Planning Framework for Sport in 2010; this contract was extended in 2013.

Playing pitch strategies

KKP is committed to driving investment in the right playing pitches and has been delivering PPS assignments across the UK since 2002. Our strategies and action plans are used to underpin funding applications and to secure developer contributions for new and improved facilities in a range of local authority areas.

The Company’s reputation and client base in this field has grown rapidly primarily because our assessments and strategies are of the highest standard and founded upon the most detailed evidence base in the sector. Our insistence on working this way is based on the fact that face-to-face consultation unearths realistic, robust issues and better identifies demand. The new PPS methodology is fully integrated into our bespoke databases to add value and enhance the level and quality of analysis conducted. Our PPS work is backed up and illustrated by our strong and experienced GIS team. Clients include core cities such as Manchester, Sheffield and Leeds, London boroughs including Lambeth, Kingston and Croydon through to rural areas such as Melton, Allerdale and East Staffordshire.

Work for developers

Our work for developers (including, for example, Persimmon Homes, Carillion, Wimpey and Morrisons plus other house-builders and specialist planning and environmental consultancies) applies the same, consistent methodology. We are also regularly commissioned to lead negotiations for developer contributions for existing and new venues.

Assessments: non-pitch sports

We regularly include non-pitch based outdoor facilities/sports such as tennis, netball, bowls and athletics within PPS to maximise client economies of scale. We are, however, equally adept at running them as discrete assessments and/or as part of indoor and built sports facilities strategies.

FA hubs

Our PPS experience directly underpins our work piloting the development and supporting the implementation of FA hubs, local area plans and sports villages. We also developed FA technical guidance on the master-planning and design of school sports facilities.
