Since publication of Sport England's original ‘Towards a Level Playing Field' (TLPF), KKP has delivered over 80 playing fields assessments and strategies across the UK applying Scottish Executive and Welsh Assembly equivalents where applicable.
To quash any ambiguity with regard to previously used terms such as 'playing fields strategies' and to ensure inclusion of non pitch sporting provision such as tennis courts, bowling greens and MUGAs in strategies, Sport England recommends that assessments should cover the quantity, quality, capacity and accessibility of all relevant playing pitch and non playing pitch provision.
As has been our practice since 2003, we too advocate inclusion of all outdoor sports facilities under one strategy as it is simply more cost effective to cover these facilities concurrently. All KKP assessments conform to the recent updated guidance.
Commended by Sport England and its Facilities Improvement Service (FIS) for our high quality, comprehensive work, we are now recognised as the ‘go to' company because:
- We provide assessments and strategies of a higher standard than our counterparts. Feedback from partners confirms that our reports are founded on the most detailed evidence base within the sector. Our insistence on working in this way is based on a belief that face to face consultation unearths more realistic and robust key issues and better identifies demand.
- Our strategies challenge clients to maximise community use by advocating facilities for all, especially schools ...more
- KKP's technical experts are recognised as leading industry specialists in this field. We apply sophisticated geographic information systems (GIS) and integrate the ‘TLPF' toolkit into our bespoke databases to add value and enhance the level and quality of analysis conducted.
- We are committed to driving investment in playing pitches via use of our strategies and action plans, translating need into development plans and funding applications for new and improved facilities.
- We bring experience of work on both sides of the fence, for developers such as Persimmon Homes and Carillion and for local authorities. We have led negotiations for developer contributions to improve a range of existing, and to provide new, provision.
- As part of our core portfolio of work (encompassing all PPG17 typologies), we regularly advise local authorities to combine playing pitch and outdoor sports facility assessments and strategies to gain maximum benefit and achieve economies of scale.
- Our expertise in this field complements our development of the FA's Local Area Plan framework, our work on sports villages and facility co-location per se, plus our support to influence the design, development, replacement and operation of school sports facilities.
KKP's playing pitch strategy approach is recommended by Sport England as an approved supplier on its Strategic Planning Framework for Sport. We have also recently been commissioned to revise and update Towards a Level Playing Field and the associated guidance.
Our work spans the breadth of England from Sunderland in the North East, Salford, Bury and Tameside in the North West to the London boroughs of Ealing, Croydon and Barnet and from Cornwall and Southampton in the South to East Hertfordshire and Harlow in the East. We also deliver across the other home countries, for example, producing strategies for clients including North Lanarkshire and East Renfrewshire in Scotland and Bridgend and Torfaen in Wales.
But don't take our word for it...
"The (Salford) report is a good example of a comprehensive assessment of playing fields ...we endorse the document." Brian Green, Planning Manager, Sport England
