Business planning

In addition to rock solid analysis, forecasting, modelling and project scoping, we have the skill and depth to test and develop robust business plans. Our approach encompasses:

  • Assessing capital investment requirements.
  • Long term (full life cycle) operating and revenue costs.
  • Assessment and evaluation of multiple capital and revenue funding streams.
  • Detailed income and expenditure projections based on robust programme development.
  • Financial modelling and scenario testing.
  • Project refinement and sensitivity analysis.
  • Action and project planning.

We construct complex business plans for projects and amenities marrying operational experience and know-how with a willingness to test new modes of delivery and innovative methods of payment and charging. By employing a methodical approach to business planning, which is based on individual requirements and circumstances we offer an excellent and competitive service:

  • 50m pools - KKP worked with Leeds (John Charles Centre for Sport) and Sunderland (Aquatics Centre) councils on their business, marketing and swimming development plans for their new 50m pool based swimming and diving facilities.
  • University sport - we modelled a range of business scenarios to identify the potential impact of funding new facilities at Sussex and Northampton universities linked to the fee structures no employed within the higher education sector.
  • Prudential borrowing - our business planning for Tameside Sports Trust has enabled it to secure investment for its facilities.
  • Joint use provision - through close collaboration with staff at Astley High School, we specified and produced the business plan for its new sports facilities leading to the securing of capital funding during the most difficult period of Lottery operation.
  • Community swimming pools - we prepared a detailed business plan to demonstrate the potential capital and revenue cost of developing a new pool in Blaenavon (County Borough Council of Torfaen) to inform political and local debate about the issue.
  • Lifecycle cost modelling - we produced a business plan incorporating 20 year lifecycle costs as part of the development of a financial model which would transform the nature of funding for all elements of sports delivery at Birmingham University.
  • Swimmer development pathway - working for a partnership of organisations including Scottish swimming, we modelled a range of income generation scenarios to link all layers and funding elements in the City of Edinburgh into an affordable single swimming programme.
