Monitoring and evaluation

SwimmerThis is an area that we have made our own and we are known for the depth, incisiveness and integrity with which we deliver.

Sport, physical activity and the wider cultural sector is under increasing pressure to demonstrate its impact on people’s lifestyles, health and well-being and, linked directly to this, its value in the context of wider political and social agendas.

Monitoring is commonplace but genuine evaluation and assessment of effectiveness and value for money relatively rare.

We have a tried and tested approach to evaluation, incorporating in depth desk research, comprehensive consultation and application of our extensive knowledge of the sector.

KKP has successfully delivered organisational reviews and detailed and constructive evaluations of a range of programmes at all levels:

  • Local - we have evaluated a variety of community intervention programmes such as Sandwell's Triple S Programme to encourage more young people to take part in sport and physical activity and the StreetGames project in Cornwall.
  • County - KKP explored the impact of the Lincolnshire School Sport Partnership Consortium, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, and advising upon its future role.
  • Regional - In response to the openness and accountability advocated by the Nolan Committee on Standards in Public Life, we delivered a comprehensive and independently led review of the effectiveness and impact of The South West Regional Sports Board.
  • National - our evaluations of national programmes and initiatives for Sport England include TASS, School Club Links and an assessment of best practice across England that included 24 specific projects and community wide interventions. These were designed to develop better understanding of the relationship between inputs, processes and outcomes and value for money.

Our commitment to innovation is exemplified by our investment in the development of our simple, user-friendly assessment of young people’s physical literacy and fitness.

Developed via a series of carefully controlled pilots, we are now able to support clients to deliver and analyse a key set of simple tests. These allow genuine assessment of the progress being made and support targeting of investment in long-term athlete development (LTAD) programmes.
