Driving physical activity and sport across Preston

This innovative, recently published strategy mapped out how PCC and partners will drive increased physical activity and sport across the City for all residents. At the same time it was designed to highlight the need to specifically target young and older people. Its development and objectives take account of the key challenges facing the City including its deep-rooted multi-culturalism, its acute health problems and the extremes of deprivation and affluence that occur across the wider district.

Strategy development, which was managed in tandem with the PCT and the director of public health, incorporated engaging with a wide range of organisations, providers and users. This enabled KKP to develop a detailed, informed, and cross-cutting approach. Work with key deliverers such as physical education, social inclusion agencies and the PCT, all added to the mix enabling development of a strategy, with multi-partner buy in, dictating a targeted, focused approach to physical activity and sport in Preston.
