Successful Football Foundation bidding

Following successful work with Bradford Sports Action Zone (SAZ) KKP was commissioned by City of Bradford MDC to prepare a Football Foundation bid for Myra Shay Playing Fields to provide much needed sports facilities serving key deprived neighbourhoods.

Myra Shay Playing Fields in the Bradford Moor area of the City is one of the only areas of open space in its local community.

Stage one involved a comprehensive community needs assessment and consultation following preliminary work carried out by SAZ staff in the area. The information gathered was used to determine the type, mix and specification of sports facilities needed to service the local community.

The second stage incorporated project development and business planning to secure the £600,000 funding application made to the Football Foundation. This was to contribute to a total project cost of £1.5 million with funding from Regen 2000, WREN and Bradford Council already secured.

The document outlined the rationale underpinning the project proposal. It included capital estimates, outlined the business planning that supports the proposal and described the demand upon which it is predicated.

Following confirmation of the funding application Myra Shay Playing Fields is now being developed to provide a suite of senior and junior grass football pitches, team and officials changing facilities, trim tails and children's play areas. These facilities will be accessed by the three neighbouring primary schools, the local extended schools programmes, community clubs and groups.
