A Facilities Strategy for Birmingham
Hub facilities are to be the City's flagship centres providing high quality sports hall, swimming pool and fitness provision on the same site.
The network of local provision will ensure that all residents live within 10 or less minutes drive time of sports hall, pool and fitness provision. In some areas this reduces to 5% to take account of factors such as population density, deprivation and low levels of car ownership.
One key issue in a regional/national context was the absence of a 50 metre pool. KKP assessed a range of options across the City, examining the extent to which each meets certain key criteria.
A parallel, detailed assessment of funding options, linked to development of school sites through Building Schools for the Future, means that Birmingham is now in a position to significantly enhance and re-model the quality and accessibility of sports provision for all residents of the City.
