| Sparking debate, challenging convention |
Welcome to the first edition of KKP News, a new regular e-zine to keep you up to date with the latest developments across the industry.
Yes, there will be news and project updates from KKP and our clients - but more importantly this newsletter has been introduced to stimulate debate and create a real talking point for the current issues and challenges that impact us all...surviving the legacy of 2012 or measuring up to childhood obesity, we shall cover it.
In our inimitable style we shall challenge convention and turn things on their head.
And, its not just about us - we want to hear from you. Whether you support our case or see things differently, get in touch, join the debate and have your own by-line in a future edition!

Pete Millward, Principal Consultant takes a view on the sudden influx of data in the sport sector...
For years, those of us working in the sports sector have bemoaned the absence of data to inform planning and to demonstrate the value of the work we do.
Now the sector is (relatively speaking) awash with data and it's difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff. More importantly, we are so busy delivering we struggle to take the time out to review what we are doing and where we can improve...

| A point of view Measuring up to childhood obesity... |
|
...In a World where ‘joined up' thinking is at a premium, do we have an opportunity to link current assessments designed to keep tabs on youth obesity trends with a broader process that incorporates elements such as measuring levels of physical literacy and evaluation of present levels of, and attitudes to, participation in sport and physical activity? Leaving aside the limitations of the current approach of measuring height and weight in Year 6 (as opposed to what might be a more logistically straightforward process in, say, year 7) could we be more courageous and challenge current Government policy? While, we are at it, why not go the whole hog and, for example, as part of the same exercise develop some form of universal leisure card sign up. This could be a mechanism to effectively present and reinforce the ‘out of school' sports offer - a way to promote ‘lifelong participation' - a highly relevant issue in today's society. It is possible that we could, very rapidly, be sat upon information that provides a much more accurate baseline of obesity, health and participation to underpin genuinely actionable programmes. In the current climate of change and intense debate among government officials and national agencies, could investment in something that may assist in determining outcomes rather than inputs be the way to go forward? |
