Tewkesbury looking to improve and protect playing pitches

Tewkesbury Borough Council has appointed Knight, Kavanagh & Page to produce a Playing Pitch Assessment and Strategy for the Borough. Building upon in-depth community consultation and quality fieldwork KKP will identify and recommend strategic opportunities for improvement, investment and protection of Tewkesbury's playing pitch facilities. It will base the assessment on Sport England guidance (Towards a Level Playing Field) and take account of the Building Schools for the Future programme and other relevant initiatives.

One key element is a comprehensive audit of all rural playing pitches in the area, including those not available for community use. This will be used to supplement existing Council data about its stock of urban sites. The audit and subsequent site assessments will underpin the final strategy delivered.

This is a project that KKP is ideally placed to deliver. It has produced over 50 playing pitch strategies for local authorities across the country, many part of wider, full PPG17 assessments of open space. A considerable number of local authorities have attracted external investment on the back of strategies produced by KKP, and, for Tewkesbury, this will be a vital study for sport in the Borough.
