Knight, Kavanagh & Page attended the official opening of Litherland Sports Park in Sefton on Monday 2nd October, a scheme for which KKP played a key role in securing £2.3m external funding.
The £5.2m facility, officially opened by Sports Minister Richard Caborn MP, is an excellent example of how provision for sport, health and learning can be joined to cater for the needs of the community. It takes the practical implementation of the sports village concept to a new level and is believed to be the only such facility in the country. Partners, stakeholders and key suppliers were invited to the event that included speeches from The Mayor of Sefton, Sport England Regional Director (North West) as well as a local teacher and pupil.
Speaking at the opening Mr Caborn said, "I am delighted to be opening this fabulous new Sports Park. Thanks to the hard work of the local council, the Football Foundation, the Big Lottery Fund, Sport England and others, we have a wonderful new facility that will make a real difference to local people. It is through good quality facilities such as Litherland that we continue to drive up participation in sport and helping those who regularly take part in sport as well as those who are just starting out."
KKP played a key role in supporting the feasibility assessment and business planning for the facility. It also worked closely with Sefton MBC to secure £1.3 million from the Big Lottery Fund and £1 million from the Football Foundation and funding from Sport England. The Company supported the Council and the other core partners through the external funding process, ensuring that partner aspirations were presented in a realistic, pragmatic manner to give the scheme the maximum opportunity for success.
Nick Rimmer, who attended the opening on behalf of KKP, "I am pleased to have been involved in such an innovative project, working with partners such as Sport England, the Football Foundation and the Big Lottery Fund. It is satisfying to see the end result of everyone's hard work."
