A single vision for sport in Trafford

Management Consultants, Knight, Kavanagh & Page (KKP) has recently supported the process via which Trafford MBC and Trafford Community Leisure Trust will deliver and embed their planned partnership to bring together the management, operation and delivery of leisure services, facilities and sports development in the Borough.

The process has involved consultation with key parties and consideration of the major issues related to staffing, finance and performance.  This culminated in KKP's recommendation that the leisure and sports development unit (SDU) could effectively be incorporated into the Trust whilst maintaining delivery of seamless sport and leisure services to the residents. This project is one of the first transfers of a sports development service into an established facilities based trust. More commonly the service is either taken with the facilities at the initial transfer stage, or is purposely retained in-house.

Commenting on the project, David McHendry (Principal Consultant) said, "The integration of the Trafford Sports Development service with the Trafford Community Leisure Trust is a natural progression for both. They are philosophically well-matched and will collectively contribute to delivering high quality sporting opportunities for the residents of Trafford. While recognising present compatibility, the positive working relationship and aligned philosophy of the officers in post and the Trust board's positive developmental approach to service delivery, it is vital to ensure that the vulnerability of the sports development service is minimised should the trading position of the Trust weaken or if there is a change in board make up or of key personnel."

Trafford MBC is now taking forward its business plan to move the process forward while ensuring that all parties remain focussed on the agreed single vision for sport in Trafford.
