Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council (CNBC) have commissioned Knight, Kavanagh & Page (KKP) to deliver a feasibility study in relation to the joint development of a major new combined University/ Borough Council sports complex on MMU's Crewe campus.
MMU and CNBC are considering the development of shared community and university sports facilities on the site of the MMU campus in Crewe. This is driven by the Borough Council's need to review sports provision in Crewe and the requirement for new sports provision on MMU's Crewe site in light of its decision to relocate from the Alsager Campus.
The work will encompass an audit of existing and planned provision, analysis of current usage together with a market assessment and appraisal. Following stakeholder consultation and a comprehensive facility mix assessment, KKP will produce a detailed business plan, options appraisal and assessment of the design concept and development of detailed operating plans for the final scheme.
KKP has the ideal balance of expertise and credentials to deliver this project. Not only, does the company hold an unparalleled track record of work in the higher and further education sectors, but our consultants have specialist expertise in complex market analysis and facility feasibilities addressing multiple partner requirements. In addition, we have extensive, contemporary experience of developing business plans for projects and amenities where experience must be married to willingness to adopt new modes of delivery and methods of payment and charging.
The proposed sports facility mix for the Crewe campus includes an aquatics centre with a 50 metre pool, large sports hall, fitness suite, indoor climbing wall and a synthetic turf pitch.
KKP has an enviable project portfolio in relation to 50 metre pool development, having been closely involved in the development of two of the most recently opened flagship 50 metre pool facilities in the country at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds and the Sunderland Aquatics Centre. KKP worked closely with staff at both city councils on the specification, business, management and development plans and funding submissions for the facilities.
David McHendry, Principal Consultant will lead on this project. He said, "It is encouraging to see these two agencies working in partnership. This innovative collaboration has great potential and could lead to a cost effective solution that will generate profitable results for both parties, while at the same time providing local residents and students with quality sports facilities."
