Sector guru and KKP stalwart, we profile Clare MacLeod: KKP's National Clubmark Manager and nationally recognised expert in both specialist training and in the field of young people and sport.

A KKP veteran, having joined the company in 2001, Clare has the best part of 20 years operational and consultancy experience in sport and leisure. She has, over this period, become a nationally recognised expert in the field of young people and sport. In her current primary role as National Clubmark Manager, she is responsible for the operational management and development of Clubmark on behalf of Sport England, working with NGBs, CSPs, sponsors, partners and stakeholders.

A renowned ‘people person', Clare has a natural ability to draw the most out of individuals and groups. A widely recognised training expert, she oversees KKP's complementary training portfolio, for which there is growing demand from all parts of the sports sector as leading agencies seek to improve the skills, knowledge and understanding of their paid and voluntary workforce.

In response, KKP is building further upon its already strong reputation both for providing bespoke specialist training and assisting agencies to improve the programmes and mechanisms that will enhance the services they provide for members, athletes and coaches. Examples include:

  • Sport England, Clubmark assessor training: Clare developed, piloted and refined the training package for Clubmark assessors; a course that, since its introduction in 2007, over 750 people have attended. These range from local authority SDOs to NGB regional and national managers. 
  • Sport Northern Ireland: She is currently providing training and guidance to staff at Sport NI, governing bodies and local authorities to support implementation of Clubmark NI, the club accreditation scheme in Northern Ireland.
  • Sport Unlimited: To complement the Sport Unlimited high quality guidance notes, she devised and delivered training for the commissioning agents delivering Sport Unlimited.
  • Sport England and the UK Home Office: She led the team that developed and conducted the bespoke Sport Prevent Awareness Training pilot for sports coaches and leaders. This was designed to assist them to recognise and support people involved in sport who could be vulnerable to being recruited by extremist groups and to raise awareness and understanding of the issues involved.
  • StreetGames: Clare developed a workshop to support coaches and leaders to better deliver sport to engage and retain young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Clare's work in training, dovetails with KKP's portfolio in this area. Our expert PPG17 team delivers training to clients on site auditing and database maintenance and KKP also developed and piloted the acclaimed RFU national club development programme, which is being rolled out across the country.

She leads on the development of appropriate training materials delivered in a range of training environments to diverse audiences. She organises and runs a variety of training courses ranging from half day bespoke seminars to training workshops at an individual and group level. She is supported by our highly experienced national tutor workforce and the complementary expertise of other KKP staff.
