Knight, Kavanagh & Page (KKP) has been commissioned by The University of Northampton to review and further improve its existing range of sports facilities.
Evidence suggests that the provision of high quality sporting facilities is a significant factor for many students when deciding on a university. Northampton recognises this and is committed to developing its current sports offering to students, staff and the general public.
The University has invested over £70m in improved facilities and buildings over the past decade, with another £80m planned by 2015. A substantial proportion of planned expenditure will be allocated to new sport facilities and services.
KKP's work will encompass a detailed business plan, option appraisal, assessment of existing design concept and costings together with the development of detailed operating plans for the final scheme.
This modern University based in the heart of England is proud of its reputation in the provision of excellent student facilities, student accommodation, libraries and IT resources and is well placed to now ensure that its commitment to sport is placed at the forefront of ongoing developments.
Sport, physical activity and well being are fast becoming core elements of daily life, especially for young people. Universities and higher education institutions recognise the importance and value of the role they play in attracting and retaining students. Institutions need to look beyond the facilities they provide and integrate the service within the whole student offer.
Commenting on the project, lead consultant David McHendry said, "Our increasing portfolio of clients from the university sector demonstrates a culture change across the industry. We are proud to be working with institutions like Northampton that are looking to lead the way and rise to the challenge by further developing high quality facilities and levels of service, enabling them to compete with the best in the market."
