KKP GIS experts support Sport England Clubmark

KKP manages Clubmark on behalf of Sport England. Amongst other things, we are responsible for performance management information to illustrate the scale of programme success and the breadth and depth of coverage of Clubmark clubs.

Updated Clubmark maps have recently been loaded to the Clubmark website. These are produced quarterly by KKP's GIS (Geographical Information Systems) team to depict the geographical spread of accredited clubs using the data from the Clubmark database.

Maps are created to illustrate the diversity and spread of Clubmark clubs (by sport and by local authority area) across each of Sport England's nine regions. They help to identify areas of strength but more importantly gaps where investment and resource is still needed.

To do this we utilise KKP's GIS experts, who are recognised as leading industry specialists. They manipulate raw data in a variety of forms to get the most from information gathered, to support performance measurement and to make it easier to understand and interpret data.

What do KKP's Clubmark GIS maps show?

Clubmark clubs - canoeing

  • Ten of the 11 medal-winning sports at the 2008 Olympics (which picked up 41 of the 47 GB medals won) support Clubmark. Maps show a good national distribution of accredited clubs in particular for cycling, swimming, rowing, athletics, canoeing and gymnastics. Is there a connection?
  • The maps for Golf and Tennis show that many more clubs have been accredited between 2007-09 than during the period between 2005 - 2007.
  • Maps for Rowing and Canoeing clearly show that apart from a scattering of clubs on the South coast, most of their clubs are based inland so you don't need to live near the coast to get wet!

Specialising in sport and cultural data, we have the most sophisticated geographic information systems in the sport and leisure sector using industry leading software, Mapinfo, to provide pictorial maps to enhance interpretation and understanding of responses and data.
