KKP to deliver review of Leisure in Hyndburn Trust

Knight, Kavanagh & Page (KKP) has been commissioned to review the Leisure In Hyndburn Trust (LHT), focusing upon three specific areas:

  • Commercial/trading activity; improving occupancy, member retention, income generation.
  • Improved efficiency and effectiveness; reviewing operating costs, staffing and roles.
  • Marketing, member retention, performance management and service intelligence.

This will be underpinned by financial modelling and scenario planning to support proposed change and assessment of the resources/investment needed to support future plans.

Hyndburn, in common with many trusts and local authorities is considering how it can minimise the net cost of service provision and increase the revenue generated by its assets.

Our approach incorporates benchmarking LHT's activities in specific areas with other comparable organisations. To do this, we build on our strong relationships with, and knowledge of, the Trust Sector in the North West and across the UK - developed over a number of years via provision of support for strategic and financial planning, governance, procurement and improvement of partnership arrangements. For alternative perspective, we will also look to consult with commercial sector providers such as Alliance Leisure and Serco.

KKP is the go-to practice for support and advice in this area - the need for which has never been greater. We apply and deliver practical, cost effective, measureable improvements and solutions. A key strength is that we are prepared to think the unthinkable; everything is considered - from forensic business planning to unearth cost efficiencies to innovative ideas on how to really "sweat the assets" by objectively reviewing operations, payment and charging methods.

Our on-going support for the Tameside Sports Trust is an excellent example of this. We are currently finalising its 3-year business plan following our comprehensive review of its commercial operation, marketing activity and performance. We have reviewed the staffing structure redefining job roles and reporting lines. The result is a new, more focused range of product/sales managers with a clear concentration on occupancy, income generation, sales and customer focused activity. There is a concurrent increased emphasis on marketing and performance measurement to support business development, customer care and cross-selling.
