Hot off the press, news on KKP’s latest commission

KKP is to identify and map community sports clubs which have higher than 50% BME membership (participants and volunteers). This study will help Sporting Equals, the national agency, charged with responsibility to promote ethnic diversity across sport & physical activity, to outline a State of the Sector report. It will detail demographics and findings for each region based on the information collected and will be used to underpin much of its future work.

Data will be captured via surveys of clubs, leaning on our network of contacts within NGBs and CSPs. With them, we shall identify key community ‘gatekeepers' to unlock the information Sporting Equals need. Recognising the complexity of this task, we shall adopt a two tier system of information storage to signify the strength of the data.

The vision is for this work to cover the whole of the country but Sporting Equals is cognisant of difficulty identifying and collating information. Hence, it has identified priority regions within which to kick off this important piece of work. Work will start in the five Olympic London Boroughs, which have the highest concentration of BME communities. We shall then ‘drill down' gathering as much in-depth information as possible so that lessons learnt can be noted and ideas for improving collection and collation implemented in other regions.

Shaheen Bi, Research, Advice, Information and Support Manager at Sporting Equals said

"This piece of work is key to helping us understand the state of BME sports sector and will provide comprehensive and current data. The information will be extremely beneficial to our partners and sports deliverers as well as allowing us to establish new regional networks. We commissioned KKP based on their track record and are delighted to be working with them based on their experience of regional mapping projects and specialist sports sector knowledge."
