A 5-year business plan for Tameside Sports Trust

The Challenge

KKP has been working with Tameside Sports Trust to develop a 5-year business plan that will enable the Trust to secure a 5-year Grant Agreement with the Council. Importantly, this agreement will not be index linked, therefore it represents a significant challenge for the organisation at a time when it is looking to secure external investment in its stock of facilities.

Approach

KKP has in developing the plan, taken its proposals through a series of workshops with the Trust's senior management team and Board of Trustees to refine and develop the business plan and detailed action plan. This approach has secured buy-in from all levels of staff as well as enabling KKP consultants to challenge how and why the Trust operates in specific ways.

Outcomes

The work undertaken has resulted in:

  • The Trust securing a 5-year grant agreement rather than year on year funding.
  • The Trust ensuring that it bases future decisions on sound management information and market intelligence
  • The Trust developing a range of initiatives which will
  1. Underpin the financial stability, trading position and profitability of the Trust.
  2. Improve the quality of core facilities and expand the health and fitness offer across Tameside.
  3. Reduce the proportion of young people in Tameside that cannot swim.
  4. Develop fitness provision within the heart of communities
  5. Develop initiatives that contribute to making Tameside a good place to live, work and play.
