Following the delivery of Bolton’s Playing Pitch Strategy, KKP was commissioned by the Borough to carry out a two stage feasibility study for Leverhulme Park.
Leverhulme Park is a large area of public open space. It has Borough wide significance and attracts use from across Bolton, western Manchester and eastern Lancashire particularly for large events and some sporting activity. At the same time it is at the heart of an area of mixed, relatively high density, housing.
KKP delivered a comprehensive community needs assessment and consultation. The initial report evaluated the potential to improve sporting opportunity and facilities in and around the Park by creating a ‘community club.’ It secured project funding from East Bolton Regeneration through SRB of £500,000.
The second stage provided project development and the business planning support required in order to secure the £1 million funding application made to the Big Lottery Fund (through Active England).
The documentation produced outlines the rationale underpinning assumptions made. It includes capital estimates, the business planning that supports the proposal and describes the demand upon which it is predicated.
Developed with external funding of over £1million, Leverhulme Park Community Club now provides a new community health, education and sports complex with indoor athletics track, fitness suite and studio area, PCT health centre, learning spaces, local council contact point and related amenities.
