KKP develops NGB business plan framework

Following confirmation of its 2009-13 Whole Sport Plan, Volleyball England appointed KKP to support its business planning process.

The latest Whole Sport Plan for Volleyball sets ambitious targets for the expansion of membership. This includes an increase in affiliated clubs, coaches and referees, volunteers and players. By 2013, Volleyball England aims to have over half a million people experiencing volleyball for the first time, 40% of schools providing volleyball and an additional 10,000 adults competing weekly in the sport.

Volleyball England's plan is unashamedly evidence based and as such KKP was asked to develop a framework to facilitate its business planning processes for the four year period, importing established outcomes and targets to provide a template for monitoring and evaluation. This framework needed to be easy to use and understand for both staff and volunteers as necessary.

The framework was segmented for each of Volleyball England's nine interventions:

1. Let's Play Volleyball (National PESSYP Programme)
2. HEVo (Higher Education Volleyball Initiative)
3. Outdoor 1 - ‘Set Up & Play' Club Equipment Franchise
4. Outdoor 2 - ‘VolleyFest' Regional Grass Series
5. Outdoor 3 - Major Event Legacy (Beach)
6. Talent Pathways 1 - Club & Coach Project
7. Talent Pathways 2 - National Programmes
8. Talent Pathways 3 - Playground to Podium
9. Talent Pathways 4 - National Training Centre for Volleyball (NTCVB)

For each activity it incorporated key actions, lead responsibility, inputs/outputs and quarterly progress to fit with organisational reporting requirements. It also built in the ability to document internal and external stakeholder support and associated risks. KKP also advised upon the relevance and classification of key performance measures and indicators.

The framework was presented, approved by the senior management team and introduced to delivery teams. Guidance notes were also provided for use of the framework.

Lisa Wainwright, Chief Executive Officer confirmed that she was happy with the work delivered and in particular the speed within which it was completed. She said, "KKP's expertise and experience in this field enabled them to hit the ground running and produce quality results in a short space of time."
